Cockatoo Festival of Music
March & April 2006

Wow what a night with Peggy Seeger! Amazing having such a legendary performer here at our Dunolly venue and she showed just why she has such a wonderful reputation. In spite of a very hot night weatherwise, Peggy delighted with her songs, wit and instrumental prowess. An additional surprise was an impromtu performance by singer Frankie Armstrong .

A great start to the year, and the music keeps coming at the Cocaktoo in a big way. It's our Cockatoo 2006 Festival of Music. Three music night in four weeks. We've managed to attract three international acts who are appearing at the Port Fairy Folk Festival and the National Folk Festival to the Cockatoo. Save yourselves all that travel.

First up it's Mundy Turner ( )from the UK on Saturday March 18, then the Wailin Jennys ( ) from Canada Wednesday 22nd of March and it's David Francey and Shane Simpson ( ) also from Canada. Wednesday April 5.

I'll put out more information about the Canadians a little later .

Mundy Turner is a duo who have appeared at the Cockatoo a number of times since we opened eleven years ago. Great entertainers, Jay sings and plays guitar while Cath plays fiddle, keyboards and also sings. Wonderful songs, beautiful vocals and very accomplished instrumentalists. They perform their own material and we would guarantee a memorable evening.

There's a stack more information about Jay and Cath on their web site including their impressive touring history nationally and internationally and - even a photo of them at the Cockatoo! Here's a couple of review comments.

"With strong vocals & excellent musicianship, the duo produce a unique sounding folk, that at times is fused with elements of jazz & blues. Jay uses a clever slide & thumbpick technique, while Cath's violin playing is smooth & elegantly phrased...A world class act." Barfly Magazine, Australia

"Though the songs are shorn of extraneous instrumental trappings, the sound is far from bare...indeed extremely full in tone...The musical settings serve to generate the immediacy of the duo's vibrant live performances with great success..." David Kidman, UK

There is a $10 entertainment fee which goes directly to the musicians. As usual bookings are essential and I am continuing to organise and co-ordinate these music events. Book either by email ( ), or the Café 54 681 681. We will be asking for a $20 deposit ($10 music $10 towards the meal).
