Project history
In 1987 the Shire of Bet Bet Bicycle Tracks were officially opened by John Brumby MHR Bendigo (and now the State Treasurer). Funding was from the Commonwealth Employment Program. The tracks had quite a lot of use and received favourable publicity in newspapers and cycling guides but with council ammalgamation and alterations to local roads it became apparent by 2001 that the signage had become misleading and that the track notes were out of date. With this in mind a local group Dunolly Community Action with funding from the Commonwealth Government Regional Solutions Program, has redesigned the track system complete with new brochures, an accurate to scale map, new signs and this website. Philip Ashton coordinated and managed the project. Margaret Van Veen working with the Victorian Government Community Jobs Program, researched local information and alterations to the track routes. Central Goldfields Shire assisted with track works. Dave Franks and Colin Hines worked on signage construction as members of the Green Reserve.. John Tully was the historical advisor.
